Comelec denies bid to disqualify BH party-list nominees

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc denied the appeal to disqualify the Bagong Henerasyon (BH) party-list and its nominees for the 2025 midterm elections, upholding a previous ruling by the First Division.

The disqualification case was filed by petitioner Russel Stanley Geronimo, who failed to comply with mandatory service requirements, including submitting proof of service.

The Comelec en banc specifically noted the petitioner's failure to attach a copy of the Certificate of Nomination-Certificate of Acceptance of Nomination (CON-CAN), which was deemed vital for verifying petition information.

The resolution stated the appeal was denied for lack of merit.

Respondents in the case include BH party-list and its nominees Rep. Bernadette Herrera, Robert Gerard Lopez Nazal Jr., and Maria Editha Tan Alcantara.

Comelec spokesperson Atty. Rex Laudiangco stated that the en banc's decision will become final within five days unless the petitioner secures a temporary restraining order from the Supreme Court via a Petition for Certiorari.
