Comelec declares failure of elections in 14 Lanao del Sur villages

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) declared a failure of elections in 14 villages across Butig, Binidayan, and Tubaran in Lanao del Sur due to stolen or destroyed ballots and VCMs, or violence, threats, and intimidation.

Special elections are being eyed for May 24 in Tubaran, Lanao del Sur, two weeks after the reported failure of elections.

Acting poll spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco confirmed that the situation in Tubaran has been contained, with violence quelled and controlled.

The 12 affected barangays in Tubaran are Tangcal, Datumanong, Guiarong, Baguiangun, Wago, Malaganding, Gadongan, Riantaran, Pagalamatan, Mindamunag, Paigoday-pimbataan, and Metadicop.

Special elections will be held for 8,295 registered voters in Tubaran, with new ballots needed only for two villages in Butig and Binidayan where ballots were stolen or destroyed.

The Comelec confirmed that ballots in the remaining 12 villages in Tubaran are intact and will not require new printing.
