Comelec chair asks PBBM to stop foreign election interference

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Erwin Garcia has asked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to prevent foreign entities from interfering in Philippine elections.

Garcia presented evidence suggesting that Smartmatic, an electronic voting systems provider, might be behind alleged offshore bank accounts linked to him.

Comelec's research indicates that Jaleo Consulting, LLC, a Florida-based US firm, conducted the offshore bank transactions attributed to Garcia.

Garcia stated that such foreign intervention is a threat to democracy and requested the President's help to stop these entities from influencing the country.

This follows claims by Sagip party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta in July about P1 billion in fund transfers to a Comelec official's alleged offshore accounts, which Garcia confirmed referred to him.
