Comelec chair links Smartmatic to demolition plot

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairperson George Erwin Garcia has linked Smartmatic to an alleged "demolition job" and smear campaign against the poll body, presenting documents to support his claim.

Garcia presented documents indicating that Jaleo Consulting LLC, owned by Jose A. Herrera, made deposits to alleged offshore bank accounts in the Cayman Islands.

He further stated that online research revealed Herrera is the director of Albatross Technologies Corporation, which shares an address with Smartmatic in the US.

Garcia also pointed out that Herrera allegedly served as Smartmatic's legal counsel and is the father-in-law of one of the company's owners.

Smartmatic has vehemently denied Garcia's accusations, labeling them as "both unfair and unjust" and asserting their non-involvement.

These accusations follow months of claims by former Caloocan 2nd District congressman Edgar Erice and Sagip Representative Rodante Marcoleta that Garcia received bribe money to favor South Korean poll tech firm Miru Systems in a bidding process.
