Comelec: BTA must pass redistricting law by Nov 30

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced that the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) must pass a new redistricting law by November 30.

This deadline follows the Supreme Court's decision to postpone the first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections, originally slated for October 13.

The Supreme Court mandated that the BTA must establish parliamentary districts in accordance with the Bangsamoro Organic Law.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia mentioned that although the Supreme Court's initial deadline was October 30, there is a grace period.

Garcia clarified that the November 30 date is within the secondary period set by the Supreme Court, allowing for potential adjustments.

He expressed concern that further delays could significantly disrupt preparations for the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections.
