BTA to continue governing BARMM until March 2026 elections

The Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) will continue to govern the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) until new officials are elected or appointed.

This follows the Supreme Court's declaration that laws creating and reconstituting parliamentary districts in the region are unconstitutional, postponing the elections.

The Comelec has reset the BARMM elections to March 31, 2026.

Republic Act No. 12123, signed by President Marcos, allows the BTA to maintain its full powers and authority during the extended transition period.

The Office of the President retains the authority to make changes to the BTA's composition.

Current BTA members will continue to serve until replaced or succeeded, without needing formal reappointment.

This arrangement ensures the continuity of governance and legal stability in BARMM.
