UST Golden Spikers sweep Green Spikers, Colinares stars in Ybañez's absence

Popoy Colinares delivered a stellar performance, scoring 17 points to lead the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Spikers to a commanding 25-21, 25-20, 25-16 victory over the De La Salle Green Spikers in the UAAP Season 87 men's volleyball.

Colinares stepped up significantly in the absence of the injured two-time UAAP MVP Josh Ybañez, showcasing his all-around skills with 11 kills, five blocks, and one ace.

This win marks UST's second consecutive victory, improving their record to 2-1, and is their first win against La Salle since April 2023.

UST coach Odjie Mamon praised his team's depth and preparation, noting that the positive team mood and good vibes translated into a light and effective performance on the court.

Jau De La Noche and Jan Macam provided crucial offensive support for UST with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Dux Yambao contributed with 19 excellent sets.

De La Salle struggled offensively, with no player reaching double-digit scoring, as Eric Layug, Noel Kampton, Michael Fortuna, and Chris Hernandez each managed only six points.

The loss places the Green Spikers at a 1-2 record.
