China's 'monster ship' spotted leaving West Philippine Sea

The China Coast Guard (CCG)'s 165-meter "monster ship," CCG 5901, has been detected moving away from the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

The vessel was spotted 60.6 nautical miles away from Paracel Island on February 14, according to Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commodore Jay Tarriela.

Coming from Panatag Shoal, also known as Bajo de Masinloc, CCG 5901 headed south towards Recto Bank before making a sharp turn towards Paracel.

This ship has been deployed in the WPS by the Chinese government to conduct illegal patrols and unlawful activities within the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone for 46 days.

The PCG has been driving CCG vessels out of the WPS since January 4, though other CCG ships have replaced them, often near Panatag Shoal.
