CHED allocates over P600M for Bagong Pilipinas scholarship program

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has earmarked over P600 million for the Bagong Pilipinas Merit Scholarship Program to support top senior high school graduates in pursuing college education.

Initiated by President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr., the program aims to assist underprivileged yet deserving students, with approximately 20,000 graduates expected to benefit starting the academic year 2026-2027.

CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley Agrupis stated that the scholarship seeks to address limited course options in local areas, enabling students to pursue their desired career paths.

The formal launch of the scholarship program occurred during the Converge to ACHIEVE: The Higher Education Summit at the Manila Hotel.

This summit also marked Dr. Agrupis' first 100 days as CHED chairperson, where she presented reforms under the ACHIEVE Framework focused on accessible, future-ready, and globally competitive higher education.
