Cebu City prohibits fireworks displays in residential areas
Cebu City has banned fireworks displays in residential areas, private households, and hospitals through Executive Order No. 26, Series of 2024, to ensure public safety during the Yuletide season.
Mayor Alvin Garcia stated that only authorized individuals with special permits can conduct fireworks displays.
Barangay officials, in coordination with the PNP and Bureau of Fire Protection, will designate specific fireworks zones based on population, availability of emergency services and equipment, and a safe distance of over 100 feet from residential areas.
The PNP has urged the public not to light firecrackers in residential areas for New Year's celebrations.
The PNP-Civil Security Group identified 28 prohibited firecrackers, including Watusi, Piccolo, Five Star (Bog), and Pla-Pla.
As of December 24, 2024, the Department of Health reported 25 firecracker-related injuries.
