Cavite Rep Barzaga resigns from NUP, majority coalition

Cavite Representative Francisco "Kiko" Barzaga resigned from the National Unity Party (NUP) and the majority coalition in the House of Representatives.

His resignation followed accusations by NUP chairman and Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno that Barzaga was soliciting signatures to oust House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

Barzaga denied these allegations, stating they were false and that he was leaving due to a betrayal of trust.

He clarified that his vote for Speaker Romualdez was based on his party's instructions, and he is also leaving the majority coalition.

This development occurs amidst rumors of renewed efforts to unseat Speaker Romualdez.

Earlier, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin accused the House of attempting to shift blame for their failures onto the Executive Branch.
