Cavite confirms first COVID-19 case

Cavite province has confirmed its first case of COVID-19, a returning Filipino seafarer who is a resident of Imus City.

The seafarer had transited through Narita Airport in Japan before arriving in the Philippines and is currently admitted at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).

Contact tracing for the first positive case has been completed, identifying 10 close contacts, with one showing symptoms and undergoing testing.

Two additional Persons Under Investigation (PUI) were confirmed on March 12: a female resident of Noveleta whose sample is awaiting results, and a one-year-old infant from Tanza with a travel history to Italy.

Another PUI, a woman who arrived from South Korea, is confined in a private hospital in Imus City, with her swab results still pending.

Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla urged local executives to be transparent about the COVID-19 situation in their areas.
