Carlos Yulo withdraws from SEA Games due to apparatus rule

Filipino Olympic champion Carlos Yulo will not participate in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand due to a rule limiting gymnasts to competing in only one apparatus.

Gymnastics Association of the Philippines President Cynthia Carrion confirmed that Yulo decided not to compete, stating that the decision allows his teammates a chance to win medals.

This restriction, imposed by host nation Thailand, means a gymnast can enter two apparatus but can only win gold in one.

The absence of team competition, which was present in the Vietnam SEA Games, is also a factor.

Yulo is also focusing on the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta, where he is nursing a minor wrist injury.
