House leaders junk impeachment rap vs. Marcos Jr. as political gimmick

House leaders have dismissed an impeachment complaint filed by Duterte Youth against President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. as a "political gimmick."

The complaint, lodged by Duterte Youth leaders Ronald and Marie Cardema, accuses Marcos Jr. of culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust.

These accusations stem from the President allegedly allowing the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte based on a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Malacañang has downplayed the complaint, calling it "baseless" and stating that the President and administration "only performed their duties and enforced the law, including their commitment to the Interpol."

Vice President Sara Duterte commented that she does not expect the House of Representatives to "seriously" tackle the impeachment complaint, as most members are allies of the President.

She described impeachment as a "political exercise" and a "game of numbers."
