Boy recovers from flu-like symptoms amid coronavirus scare

A five-year-old boy from China, initially suspected of having the novel coronavirus, has recovered from his flu-like symptoms and is no longer feverish.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III announced that the boy's mother has also not shown any symptoms of a respiratory illness.

The boy remains in isolation in Cebu City while the Department of Health (DOH) awaits definitive test results from Australia to confirm if he has the novel coronavirus.

The DOH is also monitoring 12 individuals who had close contact with the boy on the airplane.

In a separate development, Duque stated that three Chinese nationals quarantined in Kalibo, Aklan do not meet the World Health Organization's case definition for novel coronavirus, as they did not originate from Wuhan or have contact with a confirmed case.
