The Bureau of Customs (BOC) and several government agencies have established a one-stop shop to expedite the duty-free entry of imported medicines and medical supplies into the Philippines.
This initiative aims to facilitate the clearance of these essential goods, now classified as relief supplies, to combat the spread of COVID-19.
The joint administrative order, issued by eight agencies and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), will operate 24/7.
The Philippine International Humanitarian Assistance Reception Center One-Stop Shop (PIHARC-OSS) facility, created under an NDRRMC memorandum circular in 2017, will be responsible for expediting the issuance of permits, licenses, and documentation for these consignments.
This will allow duty- and tax-free entry of relief goods in coordination with the Department of Finance's (DOF) Revenue Office.
The PIHARC-OSS will be set up at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) customhouse.
The creation of this one-stop shop is a direct response to the state of calamity declared by President Duterte, classifying incoming essential items as relief goods.
