Philippine Blu Girls qualify for Asian Games

The Philippine Blu Girls secured a spot in the Asian Games by defeating India, 15-0, in the Women's Softball Asia Cup in Xi'an, China.

Roma Jane Cruz hit an early home run, igniting a rally that led to the mercy rule win against India, one of the Filipinas' three wins by shutout.

The Blu Girls showed no mercy in the third inning, delivering nine runs to ensure the 15-0 victory against India.

This win marks the Filipinas' fifth win in six outings, placing them in solo third behind undefeated China and Japan.

The team is competing against China in their second game of the day, after a 13-0 win against Singapore, to bolster their bid to reach the final.

Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines Chief Jean Henri Lhuillier noted that the team's momentum is building and the girls are more cohesive with every inning.

The Blu Girls are aiming for one of the three berths to the bracket phase of next year's World Cup, which requires finishing in the top two after the round-robin elimination stage or in the top four for a chance at the third and last spot.
