BJMP officers awarded for foiling jailbreak attempt

Four Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel were recognized for foiling an attempt by armed suspects to rescue Hu Yang, an alleged Chinese criminal syndicate leader, in Parañaque City.

BJMP Chief Jail Director Ruel Rivera awarded the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting and Medalya ng Kagalingan to the officers.

Jail Officer 2 Leif Joseph Talanquines received the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting for sustaining a gunshot wound during the incident.

The ambush occurred on April 7 while Hu Yang was being transported back to his detention facility after attending a court hearing in Makati.

Suspects fired upon the BJMP transport vehicle on a service road of the Cavite Expressway (Cavitex), prompting the jail personnel to retaliate.

Six of the suspects were arrested with the assistance of SWAT forces after one of their fleeing vehicles collided with a tree and they fled on foot toward the Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park.
