Religious leader nabbed for illegal recruitment
Bishop Reynaldo Basalio of the Faithful Promise Foundation Philippines Inc. was arrested in Rizal for allegedly operating an illegal recruitment agency disguised as missionary work.
The arrest was conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and local police, in coordination with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
Basalio allegedly used the church compound as a front for his illegal recruitment operations.
His wife, Pastora Esclarmonde Estrada Basalio, was previously arrested in April for similar offenses.
The couple purportedly promised overseas jobs in Japan, Korea, and Papua New Guinea with monthly salaries ranging from P36,000 to P120,000.
Victims were reportedly issued tourist visas and instructed to pose as missionaries to bypass immigration, with some paying P50,000.
Charges of large-scale illegal recruitment will be filed against Basalio.
The DMW has encouraged victims to seek their assistance.
