BI warns Filipinos against online scam syndicates

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) warns Filipinos against international trafficking syndicates recruiting for online scam operations via Telegram and Facebook.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado stated that most victims are college graduates from Metro Manila and nearby areas, trafficked to Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and Myanmar.

The BI intercepted four trafficking victims on March 28 who were deceived by fake job offers for Malaysia.

Around 206 Filipinos were recently repatriated after being forced to work at scam hubs in Myawaddy, Myanmar.

Victims aged 20 to 44 are targeted through misleading advertisements offering high salaries, mirroring trends from 2024.

The Philippines has maintained its Tier 1 status in the US Trafficking in Persons Report for nine consecutive years, signifying full compliance with minimum anti-trafficking standards.
