Filipina nabbed at NAIA with fake OEC

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) apprehended a 27-year-old Filipina at NAIA Terminal 3 attempting to travel to Hong Kong with a fake Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC).

The fraudulent document was detected through the BI's joint verification system with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), as it was not registered and issued to a different individual.

The aspiring overseas Filipino worker admitted that a friend facilitated the acquisition of the counterfeit document for P10,000 from an unknown individual she met in Parañaque.

Immigration Commissioner Atty. Joel Anthony Viado commended the technology used in preventing such illegal activities and urged the public to use proper channels for document processing.

The woman has been endorsed to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) for further investigation and potential charges against her recruiter.
