BI: Roque likely used same backdoor exit as Guo

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Joel Viado stated that former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque likely used the same backdoor route as dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo to leave the Philippines.

Viado confirmed that Guo likely fled through a backdoor exit, potentially crossing from Tawi-Tawi into Sabah, due to the Philippines' porous borders.

Roque was reportedly seen in Tawi-Tawi on September 2, 2024, before arriving in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The BI also confirmed sightings of Roque in Dubai and noted his denied boarding attempt to the US from Japan.

Since Roque's departure was not recorded in BI's systems, Viado suggested he likely took the same route as Guo, who also did not pass through any airport when leaving the country.

Roque faces an arrest order for skipping a House inquiry into Philippine offshore gaming operators.

The immigration bureau's limited manpower and presence in ports make it difficult to monitor escapes, especially for individuals with POGO backing and resources.
