Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla challenged Roque to return to the Philippines instead of seeking asylum in the Netherlands, stating, 'He should face the charges against him and be a Filipino.'

Remulla also stated that Roque is irrelevant to the International Criminal Court (ICC) case of former President Rodrigo Duterte, and Vice President Sara Duterte confirmed he is no longer part of the defense team.

Roque, who left the Philippines in September 2024, resurfaced in The Hague last week, announcing his intention to file for asylum, claiming political persecution.
