BI nabs Malaysian for entering PH illegally
A Malaysian national, Hii Kien Tong, was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Zamboanga City on October 16 for allegedly entering the Philippines illegally.
Hii was apprehended at the Zamboanga International Seaport while attempting to board a vessel bound for Sandakan, Malaysia.
The BI flagged Hii because his name appeared on the immigration blacklist and his passport lacked an arrival stamp.
He was initially blacklisted in December 2022 for working in an illegal online gaming hub with a canceled license.
Immigration officials noted that Hii was previously barred from entering the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in December 2023.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado stated that Hii likely re-entered the country illegally despite being barred.
Hii is currently detained at the BI's detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, pending deportation.
