BI intercepts passenger with fake OEC at NAIA Terminal 3

A male passenger attempting to travel to Hong Kong was apprehended at NAIA Terminal 3 for presenting a fake overseas employment certificate (OEC).

The passenger, in his 30s, was intercepted by Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers while about to board a Cebu Pacific flight on August 15.

The fake OEC was reportedly issued to another individual and was detected through the BI's joint system with the Department of Migrant Workers.

Authorities suspect the fraudulent document was acquired from illegal online sellers targeting aspiring overseas workers.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado cautioned that using fake documents violates immigration and labor laws and increases the risk of exploitation and human trafficking.
