BI arrests Jordanian, Chinese nationals wanted for fraud and theft

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested two foreign nationals, a Jordanian and a Chinese citizen, who were wanted in their respective home countries for alleged criminal offenses.

The Jordanian, Hussam Aldeen Mohd Kamiel Ghanem, 56, was arrested on March 11 at the BI main office in Intramuros, Manila, while attempting to extend his tourist visa.

Ghanem is wanted by Jordanian authorities, as requested by Interpol Manila, for charges related to issuing worthless checks.

The Chinese national, Peng Quanbin, 28, was arrested on March 12 at his residence in Barangay Carmona, Makati City.

Chinese authorities are seeking Peng for alleged involvement in theft and cyber crimes, including a scheme where he and others reportedly hacked computers, causing victims to lose over 3 million RMB (more than $414,000).

The BI stated that both individuals will be deported to answer for crimes committed in their homelands.

They are currently held at the BI detention facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig pending deportation proceedings.
