BI nabs SK national wanted for $1M economic crimes

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has apprehended a South Korean national wanted in his home country for economic crimes amounting to $1 million.

The fugitive was apprehended on September 12 while attempting to process a new passport at the BI's Immigration Regulation Division.

An active warrant for his arrest was issued by the Seoul Jungang District Prosecutor's Office in 2021 for aggravated punishment and economic crimes.

The suspect is accused of embezzling over $1 million through fraudulent loan applications, leading to his inclusion in an Interpol red notice.

Following his arrest, the South Korean national is now facing deportation proceedings and will be detained at the BI facility in Camp Bagong Diwa pending his departure.
