Bacolodnons avail of P20/kg. rice produced by local farmers
Bacolod City launched its "Benteng Bigas Meron (BBM) Na" program on June 5, making rice available at P20 per kilo.
The program initially purchased 5,880 sacks of rice worth PHP7.971 million from the National Food Authority (NFA).
This rice was produced by farmers from Bago City, Valladolid, and San Enrique in Negros Occidental.
Beneficiaries can purchase up to 10 kilograms of rice weekly, with vulnerable sectors like senior citizens, PWDs, and 4Ps members prioritized.
The program aims to ease the burden of high food prices for Bacolodnons.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. and Mayor Albee Benitez attended the launch event.
