DOE grants Alternergy COA for Albay wind project

Alternergy Holdings Corp. has received a Certificate of Authority from the Department of Energy (DOE) for its planned wind energy project in Albay.

The Albay wind power project, spearheaded by Alternergy Wind Holdings Corp. (AWHC), will cover several municipalities within the province.

AWHC is authorized to conduct feasibility studies and navigate government permitting processes for three years under the awarded certificate.

If the project proves commercially viable, the certificate will be converted into a 25-year wind energy service contract.

This initiative aims to generate 150 megawatts of wind capacity and will occupy 6,318 hectares of land in Albay.

The project's inception was influenced by Alternergy's participation in the Albay Renewable Energy and Investment Summit in September 2024.

Knud Hedeager, president of AWHC, highlighted the DOE's approval as a significant step towards expanding wind developments in Luzon.

Hedeager also noted the COA framework as a landmark policy by the DOE under Secretary Raphael Lotilla, which supports developers and mitigates project risks.
