Senate issues subpoena for Mayor Alice Guo over Pogo probe

Suspended Bamban Mayor Alice Guo skipped a Senate panel hearing on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (Pogos) due to illness and stress, prompting the committee to issue subpoenas against her and her family members.

Guo stated she was not fit to appear due to prolonged stress and anxiety from malicious accusations, which have adversely affected her physical and mental health and led to public ridicule.

Senator Risa Hontiveros refuted Guo's explanation, stating that her non-appearance disregards the committee's invitation and is not a valid excuse.

Hontiveros warned that Guo could be cited for contempt if she continues to snub the Senate hearing.

The Bureau of Immigration issued an immigration lookout bulletin against Guo and her associates over her alleged link to illegal POGOs in her town.

Guo's father, suspected biological mother, and siblings were also subpoenaed after failing to appear.

A non-bailable charge of qualified human trafficking has been filed against Guo at the Department of Justice.
