Mayor Alice Guo asks for fair probe amid POGO allegations

Suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo has formally requested a fair investigation into controversies surrounding her, including alleged links to illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) activities.

Guo's legal team submitted a letter to Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, who chairs the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), expressing her desire to cooperate.

In the letter, Guo vehemently denied accusations of espionage, money laundering, human trafficking, kidnapping, and involvement in illegal POGO activities, as well as seeking the mayoral post to protect a POGO hub in Bamban, Tarlac despite a document showing her as a major shareholder.

Guo's camp expressed concern that recent Senate probes have appeared to reach conclusions without due process.

The PAOCC announced it is set to file serious and non-bailable criminal charges against Guo in the coming days after finding evidence of her involvement in illegal POGO operations and considering charges related to human trafficking and money laundering.

The Ombudsman also suspended Ms. Guo this month pending investigation of graft cases filed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

However, no court has convicted Guo, and a recent fact-check rated as false a claim that she had been found guilty.
