Alex Eala to face Janice Tjen in SP Open quarterfinals

Filipino tennis star Alex Eala will face Indonesian player Janice Tjen in the quarterfinals of the SP Open in São Paulo, Brazil.

The 23-year-old Tjen, ranked No. 130, made history as the first Indonesian in 22 years to reach a WTA quarterfinal after a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win over Martina Okalova.

Meanwhile, Eala, ranked No. 188, took down Julia Riera of Argentina, 6-1, 6-4, extending her winning streak to seven straight games since her title run at the Guadalajara 125 Open.

This match marks their first career encounter in the professional circuit, though they have faced each other three times as juniors, with Eala winning twice.

Eala is aiming for her third WTA semifinal appearance this year, while Tjen is seeking her first WTA title.
