Alex Eala reaches Guadalajara 125 Open semis

Filipino tennis player Alex Eala has advanced to the semifinals of the Guadalajara 125 Open after winning two matches in one day.

She completed her comeback against American Varvara Lepchenko, 6-7(3), 7-6(3), 6-3, in their rain-delayed Round-of-16 match.

It took Eala only 14 minutes to finish the job in the Round of 16 after the match was rained out in the third set with a score of 3-2 in her favor.

Eala then defeated Italy's Nicole Fossa Huergo, 7-6(2), 6-2, in the quarterfinals, coming back from deficits of 1-4 and 3-5.

Ranked No. 75 in the world and seeded second, Eala is set to face Kayla Day of the United States in the semifinals.

This is Eala's first tournament since her second-round exit at the US Open last week.

She is also scheduled to compete in the Sao Paulo Open in Brazil from September 8 to 14.
