Alex Eala eyes first Grand Slam singles win at US Open

Filipina tennis player Alex Eala is aiming for more achievements, particularly her first Grand Slam singles main draw win at the upcoming US Open.

Despite reaching a career-high World No. 56 and making significant breakthroughs like a semifinal run at the Miami Open and her first WTA final at the Eastbourne Open, Eala feels she has much more to accomplish.

She has made main draw debuts at Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year but has yet to secure a singles victory in Grand Slam main draws.

Eala will compete in WTA 1000 events in Montreal and Cincinnati, a WTA 500 in Monterrey, and another in New York as part of her US Open preparation.

The 20-year-old also has events scheduled in China and Hong Kong later in the year.

Eala, a graduate of the Rafa Nadal Academy, became the first Filipino to win a Grand Slam singles title when she ruled the 2022 US Open Girls' singles.

She acknowledges the responsibility of representing the Philippines and aims to be a positive role model for the youth.
