85% of Filipinos worried about COVID-19

Eighty-five percent of Filipinos are worried that they or a family member might contract COVID-19, according to a recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.

The SWS national mobile phone survey conducted from July 3 to 6 involved 1,555 adult Filipinos.

Of those surveyed, 67% expressed a great deal of worry, 18% were somewhat worried, 8% were a little worried, and 7% were not worried about contracting the virus.

Filipinos' concern about COVID-19 surpasses their worry levels for previous viruses like Ebola, Swine Flu, Bird Flu, and SARS.

The highest level of worry was recorded in Metro Manila at 92%, followed by Balance Luzon at 87%, Visayas at 85%, and Mindanao at 77%.

Worry about contracting COVID-19 remained constant in Metro Manila, increased slightly in Balance Luzon and Mindanao, and decreased in the Visayas compared to May figures.

Worry about catching COVID-19 hardly changed among women, barely moving from 86 percent to 87 percent in May 2020.

It declined slightly among men, from 87 percent to 83 percent.
