84 PUV drivers, 2 conductors test positive for illegal drugs

Eighty-four public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and two conductors nationwide tested positive for illegal drug use during surprise drug screenings on April 16.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted the screening on 3,270 individuals in major land terminals across the country.

Among those who tested positive were 13 bus drivers, one mini-bus driver, 19 jeepney drivers, 37 tricycle drivers, one taxi driver, two motorcycle taxi riders, and 11 UV van drivers.

PDEA Director General Isagani Nerez stated the tests were implemented to ensure the safety of the riding public during the Holy Week travel season.

Drivers who tested positive were immediately prevented from driving and had their licenses temporarily confiscated pending confirmatory tests.

They will also undergo rehabilitation and intervention programs before they can reclaim their licenses.
