Four public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers in Iloilo City tested positive for illegal drug use during a surprise drug test conducted by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 6.
The drug test, part of 'Oplan Harabas', covered 156 drivers of taxis, tricycles, and mini-buses at two terminals in Jaro and Arevalo District.
Those who tested positive include a taxi driver, a tricycle driver, and two mini-bus drivers, all of whom are undergoing confirmatory testing with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
LTO-6 Regional Director Gaudioso P. Geduspan II stated that the operation aims to reduce road crashes, noting that approximately 500 of the country's 12,000 annual road crash fatalities occur in Western Visayas.
This initiative supports the Department of Transportation's ongoing efforts to promote a drug-free transport system and enhance road safety.
