Palace on ABS-CBN franchise renewal poll results: ‘Noted’
A July 3-6 Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed that 75% of adult Filipinos want Congress to grant ABS-CBN a franchise renewal, with 13% disagreeing and 10% undecided.
Support for the renewal was highest in Mindanao (80%) and the Visayas (77%), and lowest in Metro Manila (69%).
Rural areas showed higher support (81%) compared to urban areas (70%).
Furthermore, 56% of respondents believed the franchise denial was a significant blow to press freedom, a sentiment strongest in the Visayas (59%) and Mindanao (57%).
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stated that the Palace "notes" the survey results.
Roque acknowledged the loss of ABS-CBN as a media partner with wide reach.
This comes after Roque previously defended the franchise rejection as the "decision of the people."
