74 dead, 559 injured after magnitude 6.9 quake hits Cebu

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that the death toll from the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Bogo City, Cebu on September 30 has reached 74.

The earthquake also resulted in 559 injuries and affected 666,439 individuals, with 7,813 people displaced.

Various incidents including landslides, structural fires, building collapses, and a chemical leak were reported as consequences of the tremor.

A significant number of houses, totaling 71,996, sustained damage, with 4,969 completely destroyed.

Infrastructure damage was also extensive, with 706 structures affected, including impassable roads and bridges.

Service disruptions persisted in power, water, and communication lines across multiple affected areas.

Operations at seaports, along with classes and work schedules in various locations, remained suspended.

A state of calamity has been declared across the entire province of Cebu following the devastating earthquake.
