7 PDLs graduate college, 35 enrolled in higher education

Seven persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have earned college degrees while incarcerated, with an additional 35 currently enrolled in higher education programs, according to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

BJMP spokesperson Jail Superintendent Jayrex Bustinera stated that educational and livelihood programs are crucial for improving PDL morale and rehabilitation, aiming to reduce the likelihood of reoffending upon release.

The BJMP collaborates with the Department of Education for its Alternative Learning System, allowing inmates to complete junior high school.

Through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), PDLs can obtain NC II certificates to aid in post-release employment.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has been instrumental in facilitating college degree completions for seven PDLs.
