Seven NPA rebels killed in Masbate clash with AFP

Seven suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels were killed in a 30-minute firefight with Philippine Army forces in Barangay San Mateo, Uson, Masbate, on July 27, 2025.

The encounter was conducted by the 2nd Infantry Battalion under Joint Task Force Bicolandia, operating within the 9th Infantry Division.

High-powered firearms were recovered at the scene, including four M16 rifles and two M203 grenade launchers.

The AFP described the operation as part of an ongoing intelligence-driven campaign to suppress insurgent activities in the Bicol Region.

The clash is one of the latest actions in the AFP's intensified counterinsurgency efforts.

The AFP reported that from January 1 to July 24, 2025, 1,005 Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) members and supporters were neutralized nationwide.

This includes 867 surrenders, 71 apprehensions, and 67 killed in armed engagements.

The military also recovered or surrendered 540 firearms and 302 anti-personnel mines, and took over 96 encampments.

The AFP emphasized that the operation is part of its push for peaceful surrender and reintegration through the E-CLIP program.

The AFP reiterated that the use of force is a last resort and continues to advocate for peaceful means to end the insurgency.
