3 PH mayors stranded in Israel amid conflict

Three mayors from Eastern Visayas are among the Filipinos stranded in Israel due to escalating conflict.

The mayors, identified as Athene Mendros of Lawaan, Eastern Samar; Aron Balais of Barugo, Leyte; and Betty Cabal of Hindang, Leyte, were in Israel for a study tour on urban agriculture funded by the Israeli government.

They are currently staying in a hotel in Shefayim, north of Tel Aviv, which has a bunker for emergencies.

The delegation also included representatives from several regions and two DILG regional directors from Regions VI and I.

Their families and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Eastern Visayas are concerned and praying for their safe return.

The group was assured that they are safe and being assisted by both the Israeli and Philippine governments.
