A total of 271 Filipinos have been repatriated from Vietnam, many of whom were experiencing economic distress due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) facilitated the repatriation via a chartered Cebu Pacific flight, with 163 passengers from Ho Chi Minh City and 108 from Hanoi.
Some of the repatriates were stranded in Vietnam because of flight cancellations and were facing difficulties in securing basic necessities.
Each repatriate received $200 in financial assistance from the Philippine government, along with free RT-PCR tests for their safe travel.
This brings the total number of repatriated OFWs from Vietnam to 414 this year.
The Philippine embassy in Vietnam thanked the government in Hanoi for facilitating the exit visas and travel conditions for the repatriates.
