252 health workers infected with COVID-19, DOH says

A total of 252 healthcare workers in the Philippines have been infected with COVID-19, the Department of Health (DOH) reported.

This includes 152 doctors and 63 nurses.

The DOH confirmed that 12 healthcare workers have died due to the virus, although the Philippine Medical Association reported 17 doctor deaths.

This is the first time the DOH has released data on infected health workers, which became possible after revising their case investigation forms to include occupation details.

The DOH has also revised its testing policy to prioritize symptomatic healthcare workers.

The medical industry has complained of a lack of personal protective equipment (PPEs) to shield them from the virus.

The DOH has 1 million sets of PPEs to be distributed, and local garment factories will produce 10,000 more PPEs after Holy Week.
