20 lawmakers to go on self-quarantine after Covid-19 exposure
Twenty-one lawmakers are self-quarantining after ACT-CIS party-list Representative Eric Go Yap tested positive for COVID-19.
Yap attended a meeting in Malacañang on March 21 and a special session at the House of Representatives on March 23 while awaiting his test results, which came back positive on March 25.
Among those quarantining are Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, Majority Leader Martin Romualdez, Minority Leader Benny Abante Jr., and Deputy Speaker LRay Villafuerte.
House Secretary General Atty. Jose Luis Montales confirmed that all House members and employees who attended the special session will undergo self-quarantine as per protocols.
Romualdez stated that while he had no close contact with Yap and remains asymptomatic, self-quarantine is the most responsible course of action.
Abante echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that he is quarantining with his family as a precaution to prevent potential transmission.
Deputy Speaker Villafuerte confirmed he is on Day 1 of his 14-day self-quarantine and will continue to work from home.
