19 Eastern Visayas residents test positive for Covid-19

Nineteen returning residents from Eastern Visayas tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday, marking the region's highest single-day increase and bringing the total cases to 72.

The new cases, all asymptomatic, are from Baybay City (six), San Isidro, Northern Samar (six), Ormoc City (five), Pastrana, Leyte (one), and Calubian, Leyte (one).

Health officials stated these cases are not classified as local transmission, as the individuals likely contracted the virus in Cebu or Metro Manila.

At least 12 of the newly infected individuals were stranded in Cebu City, while seven had extended stays in Metro Manila due to movement restrictions.

The DOH Eastern Visayas Regional Director expressed alarm over the widespread presence of the virus in various areas of the region, not just concentrated in Tarangnan, Samar.

The positive results came from 195 swab samples processed by the Eastern Visayas Regional Covid-19 Testing Center and 65 samples examined by Divine Word Hospital.
