Two individuals have died due to firecracker-related incidents nationwide as the Philippines welcomed the New Year.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported a total of 704 firecracker-related injuries nationwide from December 22 to January 3, a 16.9 percent increase from the previous year.
Most injuries were caused by common firecrackers such as kwitis, boga, five-star, and whistle bomb.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) also reported 822 injuries and seized over P4 million worth of unregulated firecrackers, arresting 83 individuals.
Separately, a 19-year-old student in Davao del Norte died from a stray bullet on New Year's Eve.
