1,694 health workers infected with COVID-19, 33 dead

A total of 1,694 health workers in the Philippines have contracted the novel coronavirus, with 33 confirmed deaths among them.

Of the total infected, 566 are doctors, 638 are nurses, 104 are nursing assistants, 66 are medical technologists, 32 are radiologic technologists, 18 are respiratory therapists, 19 midwives, 14 pharmacists, and 237 are other health facility employees.

Among the fatalities, 24 were doctors.

The Department of Health (DOH) also reported that 256 health care workers recovered from the virus.

Health workers now account for almost 20% of the country's coronavirus cases.

The government has intensified efforts to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to health workers, with over 1 million sets imported from China and local factories committed to producing 10,000 sets daily.
