VP Sara visits landslide victims, provides aid

Vice President Sara Duterte visited landslide victims and attended wakes for those who died in Monkayo, Davao de Oro on Saturday to offer condolences and assistance.

Duterte provided cash aid and 12 sacks of rice to the families affected by the deadly landslide that killed a total of 13 people across Davao Region as of Sunday.

During her visit, she expressed sympathies particularly to the bereaved Gumatin family, all eight members of whom were buried under earth and rocks during the incident while attending a prayer worship.

Some families asked for new homes due to the dangers of their current living conditions, and Duterte assured them that the Office of the Vice President would work with local government units to address these housing needs.

She also announced additional assistance for thousands affected by flooding and landslides across Davao region, emphasizing the importance of following local disaster management orders.

Vice President Duterte advised residents in hazard-prone areas to evacuate preemptively during heavy rains and follow evacuation instructions from local authorities.
