VP Sara Duterte to visit South Korea before SONA

Vice President Sara Duterte confirmed on Wednesday that she will visit South Korea to attend a Filipino community event and return to the Philippines on July 28 for the State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Duterte cited her intention to personally express gratitude to Filipinos in South Korea during her trip.

The Vice President, who has become a political rival with President Marcos Jr., is currently abroad visiting her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is under arrest at The Hague since March.

Sara Duterte described her father's health as 'skin and bones' but noted that his current slim appearance is healthier than his previous heavier build.

The elder Duterte faces crimes against humanity charges before the International Criminal Court in connection with the killings under his war on drugs when he was mayor of Davao City and president of the Philippines.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will deliver his fourth SONA on July 28, while House Secretary General Reginald Velasco noted that the House remains prepared should Duterte change her mind about attending.
